I was reading an article today about trees.
The article stated that the one key to survival of trees is that they have more roots than shoots. If there are more shoots than roots the tree will be short-lived.
If the tree puts down
a great deal of roots and adds shoots more slowly, it is liable to be long-lived and more resistant to stress or strain.
